International Women's Day Lunch
On Wednesday the 9th of March 1300 women and a few men converged on the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre for the International Women's Day Debate. This year 4 of our 4imapct staff attended along with 6 female clients. We were treated to a wonderful lunch and an entertaining afternoon.
Each year 6 business women grace the stage and debate a topic. This years topic was “quotas are a girls best friend”
The affirmative team members were Dr Jennifer Werner, Fiona Berkin (CEO Morris Holdings Corporations) and Mara Bun (CEO Green Cross Australia). The Negative team members were Suzie Wright (Managing Director and CEO of Digger Machinery attachments), Sharnee Rawson (2010 Masterchef Contestant) and Carolyn Barker (COO and CEO-designate Endeavour Learning Group) These six inspiring women provided a great argument both for and against as well as some laughs along the way.
The affirmative team argued quotas are the way of the future and companies would only go onwards and upwards with these in place. The negative responded by saying we have a number of influential women who have become the top of their career paths and they have done this without quotas, instead hard work and determination got them there. They also argued that quotas would impose rules and regulations that women would have to follow and this would not help. After listening to all sides it was decided the Negative team were the rightful winners.
Overall a great time was had by all who attended and we raised some funds for some well deserving charities.
